"Disturbia" is a song by Barbadian recording artist Rihanna, from her third studio album, Good Girl Gone Bad. The song was written by Andre Merritt, Chris Brown, Brian Kennedy,[1] Robert Allen, and produced by Brian Kennedy; Background vocals were performed by Brown and Merritt. It was sent to radio in North America on June 17, 2008 and physically released as a single in the United Kingdom on July 22, 2008. It is the third single from the re-release of the album, following "Take a Bow" and "If I Never See Your Face Again". The song is a synthpop song with a dark sound and lyrics about being frightened.
Critical reception of the song was generally positive by many critics, who complimented its dark musical tone. The song was Rihanna's highest debut on the US Billboard Hot 100 to date and also attained success, topping the charts in New Zealand as well as reaching the top five in Canada, France, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. The video for the song portrays Rihanna inside a gas chamber. In 2009, the song received a Grammy nomination in the Best Dance Recording category but lost to electronic duo Daft Punk for their song "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger".[5] Rihanna performed "Disturbia" a number of times, including at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, surrounded by dancing zombies. Pop-punk band The Cab covered the song for the compilation album Punk Goes Pop 2. Billboard magazine ranked it number nine on their list of Songs of the Summer of 2008
